Make-up Routine

Client:

Personal Short Film

Year : 2021

This abstract story follows a young woman and an everyday ritual for a lot of women: their makeup routine. The story starts off with her face freshly washed; scar and makeup free. The woman begins to apply her make up only to realize that what she is putting on is neither the truth nor a reflection of how she really feels. She takes the makeup off only to begin reapplying her makeup but this time, using make up to creates the illusion of bruises. At this stage of the story, the bruises are meant to be symbolic of the emotional turmoil or rather “bruises” that she suffers from. Later that day, she takes the makeup off. The next time, she does the same thing and paints on more bruises, before taking them off later that day. In the last two shots however, you are given further insight into the root of her pain and disturbing makeup choices. You see that she is in a toxic and abusive relationship. Lastly, you see a shot of her face washed, however, this time the bruises don’t come off symbolizing that the reality and emotional suffering she was living with all this time, finally became her reality. Those emotional bruises are now physical. The reality in her mind is now her reality in real life.
